As you are well aware, the packaging industry continues to face an unprecedented escalation in the cost of utilities, freight, and core raw materials used to manufacture steel, plastics, and paper.
Since the beginning of 2008, crude oil has spiked and continues to set record high closing prices on a weekly basis. With that, freight surcharges of 18-23% continue to plague the movement of inbound and outbound freight within the transportation industry.
Additional Cost Drivers through June 2008:
Natural Gas up 83% Poly Resins up 53%
Paper Prices Up 10% Acrylic up 21%
Increase Export Demand Weak US Dollar
The factors currently affecting our cost are driven by market trends that are not within our control and regretfully, we have been hit very hard with numerous price increases. Packaging Systems continues to implement internal efficiency initiatives in an effort to offset further increases and maintain your competitiveness in the marketplace. As Supply Chain managers, we continue to monitor market conditions and will keep you apprised as additional information becomes available.
We appreciate and value your business. Thank you for your continued support of our products and services. Our Motto: “Lowest Cost per Load Effectively and Environmental shipped” means more in today’s marketplace then ever before.
