Our New Symbol
This new symbol represents our approach to the marketplace and to our committment to the environment. We introduce innovative solutions that take into consideration the impact on your own efforts to reduce items ending up in the waste stream. This Chasing Arrow Logo illustrates our company motto of "lowest cost per load effectively and enviromentally shipped". Our goal is to match appropriate packaging, avoid over engineering and always add value.
The circle represents the four Rs, Remove - Reduce - Reuse - Recycle that drive the Recycling Audits that will allow us to assist in the design and implementation of your corporate recycling program.
Smart Businesses Recycle
An exerpt from Indiana Department of Environmental Management's brochure:
The most effective way to reduce your company's waste is to generate less in the first place.
- Use minimal or reusable packaging
- Use and maintain durable equipment and supplies
- Reuse products and supplies
- Examine your feedstocks and reduce the use of raw and/or hazardous materials
- Use an online materials exchange, such as www.IN.gov/recycle/imx to swap unwanted materials
You may also consider forming a team to plan, design, implement and maintain a waste reduction program. (Packaging Systems can assist in this)
The next time you think about "Recycling" think about it from the economical point of view. See how these companines improved their financial health by recycling.
Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. - ZERO waste - thats how much Subaru has sent from production operations the the landfill since May 2004. The economic benefits: SIA's revenue from steel and aluminum recycling was an extimated $3.9 million in 2004. SIA saved $53,000 by recycling cardboard and plastics instead of paying landfill disposal feel
Eight WasteWise awards in just seven years led the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency inducting Gardian Automotive's Ligonier Plant into its WasteWise Hall of Fame in 2006. While continuously searching for ways to reuse and recycle new materials Guardian's Ligonier plant has saved more than $1.3 million in operating costs since becoming a WasteWise partner in 1996. The facility recycled more than 13,000 tons of waste in 2005, saving $360,000 (impressive for a plant with only 287 empployees)
Nearly 1,400 tons - that's the volume of recyclables Roche Diagonstics, Indianapolis reported for 2005. Roche increased its overall recycling rate from38 percent in 2004 to 45 percent in 2005, with an estimated cost savings of $427,000. Amoung materials Roche recycles are coardboard, plastics, paper, cans, bottles, glass, pallets, gold scrap and styrofoam.

News from Sweed
Sweed Introduces POG Recycling
Gold Hill, OR—POG is an acronym for “Point of Generation” and is a new concept in recycling. Point of Generation recycling is a cost-efficient way to dispose of manufacturing byproduct and works when facilities place a scrap chopper in each area they’re generating scrap. Typically, facilities collect scrap in a section of their plant allowing it to pile up, or they drag piles of scrap across the production floor to one large machine, typically a granulator or shredder, which can be loud and difficult to store. The consequence to both of these scrap handling methods is that it’s handled more than once, which decreases production time and increases the chance of employee injuries. When a scrap chopper is located in each section the scrap is being generated, the scrap is processed immediately and no longer needs to be handled. POG recycling increases employee
production times, shop safety, and creates additional production space.

Environmentaly Friendly Loose-fil Packaging
Corru-fill is a loose fill packaging material produced from scrap corrugated material. Rather than scrap corrugated ending up in a landfill it is processed by a Corru-shred machine into a uniform size. You can manufacture your own packaging material using an item that formerly was considered a waste product.
If you do not have enough scrap corrugated to justify producing your own Corru-fill packaging you can still benefit from the superior protection offered by this material. Packaging Systems offers Corru-fill ready made by the box and in the quantities you need to secure and protect you products. Ask us about it.

Recycling Containers
RECYCLET Universal Recycling Containers
Universal Recycling containers can be used for any material that is recyclable, such as glass, plastic, paper, general waste, or even hazardous waste. Simply use the correct label on the container for identification. There are two units available, Model “A” is used with a poly bag liner for lighter objects such as aluminum cans. Model “B” fits over a 55 gallon drum for heavier objects such as glass. These units are made of 100% non rusting polyethylene with a UV stabalizer for outdoor storage. Available in six colors plus our new granite; great for color coded material.
Economic Stimulus Act of 2008
Economic Stimulus Act of 2008
The following is an excerpt from the recently published article “Washington Tax Report” by BDO Seidman, LLP. This article gives details on the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 passed by Congress on February 7, 2008. We found this to be extremely interesting and wanted to share it with you. It may generate an incentive to purchase equipment during 2008. Please share with anyone that may be interested, and remember we are the premier source for automated packaging equipment and industrial handling, safety & storage equipment.
The following tax benefits are provided to businesses:
Bonus Depreciation
For both the regular tax and the alternative minimum tax, the first-year depreciation deduction otherwise allowed on certain qualified tangible personal property acquired and placed in service during 2008 is increased by 50 percent of the cost of such property.
The deductions provided by the asset expense election and bonus depreciation are illustrated by the following example:
Corporation X purchases and places in service machinery (5-year property) in its calendar 2008 tax year having a cost of $650,000, which will be subject to the half-year convention. Corporation X will elect to expense $250,000 under Sec. 179, leaving the machinery with a remaining depreciable basis of $400,000. Applying the bonus depreciation provided by the Act, Corporation X is entitled to a further deduction in 2008 of $200,000 (50% of $400,000), leaving the machinery with a remaining depreciable basis of $200,000. Standard first-year depreciation for 5-year property under the half-year convention is 20%, providing Corporation X with further depreciation on the machinery of $40,000. Accordingly, Corporation X is entitled to a total expense and depreciation deduction of $490,000 in 2008 on its $650,000 machinery. The remaining $160,000 cost of the property is recovered after 2008
under otherwise applicable rules for computing depreciation.
